My Story
Welcome to Pikku Pottery!
I'm thrilled to share a bit about my journey with you. My name is Benjamin Walker, and I am the proud owner of Pikku Pottery.
I graduated from Leeds Metropolitan University in 2010 with a degree in Fine Art, which laid the foundation for my passion for creative expression. it was during my time in Leeds that I started attending evening pottery classes at Leeds college of Art and Design, and I started to cultivate my passion for ceramics.
In 2013, I had the incredible opportunity to be an apprentice under Stuart Broadhurst, a master potter with over 30 years of experience. This intensive one-year apprenticeship honed my skills and deepened my appreciation for this timeless craft. I was trained in traditional throwing techniques, processing locally found clay, and creating unique glazes from natural ingredients.
From 2018 to 2023, I worked at Altar Pottery in Liverpool. An amazing pottery studio located at the John Archer Hall in Toxteth. Where I was lucky to work beside lots of amazingly talented potters, which helped to develop my craft and grow as a potter and as a person. I had the joy of delivering regular evening classes and pottery workshops. It was this experience that helped me realise my passion for teaching and passing on my knowledge. It was during this time I developed my soft personable approach, and I have managed to turn complete beginners into competent and confident potters creating their own unique pottery pieces.
Now with 13 years of pottery experience under my belt, I've cultivated and honed my skills and a love for creating unique, handcrafted pieces. At Pikku Pottery, I bring this wealth of experience and a personal touch to every creation and class. Thank you for visiting, and I hope you find inspiration in my work.
